Mo Jo Defined

A word or two from Peter about how we named our wine

I first heard this word while living in New Orleans, a city with a long history of voodoo.  In this practice a mojo is a spell or a power used to influence people or things and comes in the form of magical items, appropriate for the particular power you desire, placed in a flannel bag to wear around your neck.  In “Little Queen Of Spades” Robert Johnson sang about a gambling woman whose mojo made the cards come her way.  In “Got My Mojo Working” Muddy Waters was trying to use his mojo to get a woman to fall in love with him.  It is thought that the word mojo originates in an African dialect or possibly is just short for “magic”.

Jim Morrison interpreted Muddy Waters’ song as having sexual overtones, which came out in his early 1970s “Mr. Mojo Risin’” and Mike Meyers took this one step further in his Austin Powers films.

We chose to name our super Tuscan style blend Mo Jo because it is our most powerful wine.  If it does anything magical for you then so much the better.
